Scott I've just had this album playing in the background for several hours yet I'm at a loss for words as to how to describe how I feel right now. "Chronos" is simply fantastic. I've had my attention attracted to - but not held by - many similar recordings in the past, but it took Ausklang mere minutes to grab hold of my short hairs and not let go (as they say). The melody in "Future Memories" is catchy and that song plus the next two make for a very satisfying 20-minute listening experience. Awesome. Favorite track: Tempora.

MDonaldson (8sided.blog) Soaring spaciousness abounds on Chronos, an album from the Berlin-based trio Ausklang. The band’s not quite moody enough for post-rock, a bit too drummy for ambient, and way too heady for indie-rock. They’re somewhere in the middle of all of that, probably closer to what I hesitate to call “soundtrack rock.” Ausklang are like a Popol Vuh for the drone-footage age, replacing the ecstatic mysticism with shoegazey optimism. Favorite track: Future Memories.

Anthony Davies Guitar led ambient? Yes please. A very assured debt from Ausklang. Very serene in places but has some big moments, always interesting. Recommended. Favorite track: Ruhe.

about

'Chronos' is the debut album of Berlin-based trio AUSKLANG. Presenting a perfect blend of ambient and post-rock music, Chronos traces all the veins of rock, from a grandiose ensemble sound of a cinematic soundtrack to the delicate natures of ambient soundscapes. Each song has its own pulse and signature, giving a new feeling each time.

'Chronos' is a reflection on our perception of time. Time is both guiding and limiting us. Music is a time-based art with clear structures yet holds the power to transmit a feeling of timelessness.

AUSKLANG creates that sentiment with layers of reverberating guitars and warm synth pads hovering over solid drums. The songs are taken from long sessions of improvisation and were later re-arranged and enhanced by additional tracks of piano, french horn and tape recordings.
